My wife and I struggled to have a child and along the way learned the challenges, frustrations, and disappointments people go through dealing with infertility. This was one of the most trying experiences of our lives and many times we thought we would never have the baby we dreamed about. As a result, we found our way to the Aurora Fertility Clinic and immediately felt that this was the right place. Part of that was from early interactions with a nurse named Mandy.
Mandy went out of her way to take extra time and showed extra compassion explaining some of the things that we would be going through. Many times, we found ourselves seeking out Mandy to help us understand some of these things, but also build our sense of optimism that things could work out. We later found out that Mandy went through a similar experience. All of this created an extremely safe space to ask those questions and probe deeper on some of the things the doctor would tell us.
All of the nurses in the clinic were great, but we found ourselves really connecting with Mandy. A big reason is that she was generally invested in our journey, was always there to answer my dumb questions, and truly went out of her way to ensure we had the information we needed. Throughout the process, she felt more like a friend than a nurse. We have interacted with a lot of the nurses and doctors, but Mandy truly made us feel the most comfortable and instilled the sense everything will be all right.
Four months ago, after trying for nearly 3 years, we welcomed our first baby into the world. We are grateful for everyone who helped us to get her, but Mandy continues to be the person we most fondly think of (after the doctor who made this all happen of course) when looking back on the journey. When thinking back on why it's not that she had more clinical expertise or knowledge than others we interacted with (although she didn't lack that on the front). Instead, it was that she was able to make a very uncomfortable and awkward experience to feel more normal. She never made us feel that our many questions were a burden or dumb. More than anything, she brought a realistic sense of hope that this could work by explaining things in terms that we could understand. To this day we highly recommend Aurora Fertility Clinic and a big piece of that is from our experience with Mandy. I hope this helps her and Aurora understand the incredible value she has brought to our experience and surely continues to bring to others!
