My wife went into labor in the morning and our OB gave us an appointment that afternoon. My wife was contracting for hours before we finally made it to the hospital. We waited an hour for a hospital room and we finally got into one. Unfortunately, it was a terrible experience up until then. It seemed like we were just one of many people and of no value to our doctors or hospital. Finally, Maria showed up and started to help. She treated my wife with the utmost care and went the extra mile to make sure she was comfortable. She was extremely kind, professional and knowledgeable about what needed to be done and took steps to get everything done so she could get her epidural. Throughout the night, she checked on us regularly and made sure my wife was as comfortable as possible.
To receive such care from a nurse so young was quite impressive and showed us that she truly was remarkable. We later also found out that she was doing her residency - this was just as shocking considering the level of care she gave us.
She deserves the DAISY Award because, despite the experience, Maria showed and eschewed a level of knowledge, professionalism, and care I would expect from nurses with 20+ years of experience.
Do the hospital a favor and keep her on board. If I have another baby, I will be sure to try and request her. Signed, a Happy, Happy, Father
