I would like to nominate my nurse, Kim Schilling, LVN, for the DAISY Award. Kim is a wonderful nurse, and I would most of all like to take this opportunity to thank her for all her hard work. I am a nurse practitioner in Amelia Court HIV Clinic and see lots of walk-in patients, most of whom need injections, breathing treatments, ear canal cleansing, and other procedures. Kim is a model of efficiency and is quite efficient with getting each person vitalized and ready in the exam room. She then quickly and efficiently takes care of patient discharge business and getting the necessary orders done.
Kim pre-clinics my schedule and determines who needs vaccines before the patients come for their appointments each day. She is nearly always nearby and always ready to respond in a willing and cheerful manner. I have never had a patient complain about her and the patients all like her. She seems quite knowledgeable about the HIV medicines and all other aspects of patient care in this difficult clinic. I have been an NP for 24 years, and can honestly say I have never worked with someone as great as Kim.
Kim has the habit of looking at the next day's charts the day before the visit. She writes down anything that may be significant the next day--needed vaccines, abnormal STD results, recent ER or hospital visits, whether they have a wound, etc.
I enjoy observing how Kim interacts with her patients, She treats them with respect and adds that "extra-touch" of compassion that our patients truly need. I enjoy working alongside Kim each day!
