It's difficult to choose just one instance where Megan went above and beyond, as it seems her goal is to provide unfathomable care. We have been a UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh family since my son was born and have always been treated great. Now that he is 18 years old, I was concerned that he may get overlooked or undervalued. Megan completely eased my worries by providing specialized attention in a laid-back way.
Instead of trying to force him to eat or drink or just allowing him to not eat or drink, she repeatedly suggested things that would hydrate him. This resulted in him eating and drinking his first items in days! When he had been stuck too many times for labs or ordered medications took too long to come, she was the first to advocate on his behalf for the IV team and/or call the Pharmacy with a reminder. She took the time to listen to my son's concerns without being dismissive, answered questions (oftentimes before I asked), and brought laughter and joy into our boring and isolated hospital room.
I could go on and on about her care, from having a pitcher of water or Slushee out in advance for our refreshment to her making sure everyone was on the same page with our room's needs and concerns. Instead, I will just say that I am elated that we have Megan for our nurse. She makes us realize that Children's values all of their patients, including adult children. Thank you, Megan, we Love you!
