I was diagnosed with cancer back in June. I had a port placed on day 1 of my 1st treatment, therefore, it did not need to be accessed, the 2nd treatment it wasn't healed so a PICC line had to be used. Finally, on my 3rd treatment, my port could be used. When nurses tried to access it, they could not get it. Four nurses and 9 sticks my port still was not accessed. At this point, I was in tears, stressed and very anxious. IV Therapy was called to try to access. Laura came and was so gentle, held my hand and calmed me down before even attempting. Asked me if I was ok with her trying before she proceeded because she knew the site now was very sore. I told her yes. She took her time, was gentle, and got it on the 1st time. Later that day she returned to check on me. Told me she would be more than happy to access every time I came for treatment, which she has followed through with. Laura even has come to check on me twice while not on duty, once being a holiday surprising me with ice cream saying no one should have to spend the holiday in the hospital. She made me feel like family, not a patient. She is in the right field for sure.
