We responded to an ACT call/code for a patient, Ayesha responded from the CVICU and the climate of the room changed when she walked in. The ACT RN and myself were relieved to see her walk in because we knew her skill set would provide even more insight into the patient's situation. She looked at the patient and stated, "this patient is in shock we need to get the doctor in here right away". When she spoke to the doctor on the phone, her persistence for getting this patient where they needed to be was on target. Within minutes of her getting off the phone, the patient was rolled out of the room and into the ICU. She asked the doctor for specific orders, communicating clearly and requesting the correct treatment for this patient. I believe this patient's outcome, despite all her odds will be good due to Ayesha's persistence to get the care she needed for this patient as well as her attention to detail. Her skill set shined during this chaotic time. Her compassion and knowledge made a difference for this patient. The patient was taken to the Cath lab a few hours, and after was transferred and later scheduled for open heart surgery. This patient later had to have another lifesaving intervention. I believe this nurse's exceptional nursing care, provided a way for this patient to receive the care she truly needed.
