I just wanted to take the time to recognize Brittany Swann, RN in CCU today for her excellent nursing skills and for working hard to save a patient's life. Brittany received a patient from the cath lab who underwent a cath via the femoral artery. Brittany noted upon her assessment that the patient did not look right, she was pale, and complaining of belly pain. Right away Brittany started reporting to the CCU team what was happening and that she suspected a retroperitoneal bleed, and soon the patient became hypotensive. She pushed and pushed, and did not give up on getting the patient to the CT scanner where a retroperitoneal hematoma was confirmed. It was Brittany's nursing instinct and her ability to advocate for the patient that truly saved a life today. Brittany is a great asset to the CCU team and she is truly a shining star today.
