My husband's brain tumor came as a big surprise, and life was interrupted at a truly inconvenient time. While he waited at the hospital for a neurosurgery date for six days, his 14-year-old daughter was performing in a local theatre production of "The Wizard of Oz" as the Wicked Witch of the West. Our family was deeply disappointed that he would be unable to see the play and cheer her on as a member of the audience.
With so much fear and uncertainty surrounding my husband's ultimate prognosis, and the seriousness of a tumor removal that had been growing unknown to him for at least five years, our family was undergoing a great deal of stress. Casey was my husband's day nurse and she advocated with great persistence for his temporary release. To our surprise and wonderful relief, he was allowed to go home for the weekend. This meant so much to our family and helped our entire family through a very difficult time. Without Casey's caring and above-and-beyond approach, he would have missed the play and an opportunity to build some wonderful memories days before the surgery.
