I was not expecting to be admitted when I came to the emergency room. We had just returned from a 2-week trip to Hawaii and I hadn't even unpacked. When I was told I needed to be in the hospital for 7-10 days, I was beside myself as I wasn't prepared. Then when I found out I was going to a 2-bed ward, I begged to be transferred to another hospital. I seriously considered going AMA. I reluctantly agreed to go to the ward for one night.
Rachel did my admission and she was amazingly reassuring and comforting. She calmed me down and assured me I needed to be here for important IV antibiotics. She instilled confidence in me that I would get the treatment I needed. She was the main person who convinced me to stay. Apparently, it was important to be in the hospital as I am still here 2 weeks later receiving IV antibiotics.
Rachel convincing me to stay most likely prevented my condition worsening in a dramatic way. She is skilled, empathetic, has good communication skills, and is exactly the kind of nurse you hope you will have.
