Throughout the past 9 months, Curt has blossomed into a compassionate, highly competent ER RN. He has kept his caring demeanor but developed the critical care skills of an ER nurse. Curt always asks questions, never doing anything until he is confident and knows the reason "why." Curt jumps on new experiences and is always willing to help out. Curt picks up extra shifts when we are short and does it happily and sometimes brings in coffee for the department.
One weekend, we had a critical patient who needed a chest tube and 1:1 care. Two RN's, a respiratory therapist and our doctor were tied up in the room for 40 minutes. Curt stepped up and kept the rest of the department under control and placed squads appropriately while I, the charge nurse, was assisting with the critical patient. All I had to do was ask and he was on the job like always. The main thing is I knew I could 100% trust Curt to keep things under control and knew he would come to me if he needed anything while I assisted in the care of a critical patient. Curt will do great things as an ER nurse and is deserving of this award!
