A grateful mother explained why this remarkable team is receiving special recognition:
"I was very pleased and happy with my daughter's care. The ladies in pediatrics have shown great compassion with children and were there for us, taking time to get to know me and my family while attending to our needs. These nurses, go way above and beyond the call of duty; they have such a unique ability to care for and connect with children. My daughter felt like she was at home here, because of the toys and comfort items that were provided to her. Offering the necessary tools for children, like toys, TV games, iPads and DVDs, so children feel like they are in a comfortable environment.
Prior to this admission, my daughter was anxious about coming to Valley Presbyterian Hospital. Two years ago, I lost my son, who was born at this hospital, after an eight-month pregnancy. My daughter only knew this hospital as the place where he died…now, with the help of the pediatric nurses, she has a different way of thinking about this hospital. She now believes it is the coolest hospital ever. We were so amazed with the Poke plan. My daughter is no longer scared of pokes. She understands the need for them, because the nurses took the time to explain to her why pokes were needed. Overall, our experience was excellent."
