On our floor in pediatric oncology, we have a program called Beads of Courage. The Beads of Courage program helps children record, tell, and own their stories of courage during treatment for cancer. Cori has gone above and beyond to help several different families with collecting their beads. She went back multiple months figuring out the dates of everything that each of our patients has been through- every surgery, transfusions, scan, admission and discharge, dressing change, ICU admissions, etc., and each has their own color bead. These multiple strings of beads help tell the patient's story of treatment and everything they had been through during their cancer journey. These beads hold so much meaning for the patient and their family.
One specific patient had been in treatment for 8 months and unfortunately had passed away, but Cori spent hours going all the way back to diagnosis, figuring out every date and every bead that baby boy deserved. His mom was so happy to receive the beads, showing his journey. It was so meaningful for her that the multiple strands were draped at his viewing and they were also at his funeral. This patient is just one of many that Cori has touched and has gone above and beyond helping them share their story.

Cori has gone above and beyond recently to ensure that our oncology patients are getting their Beads of Courage. Many of our newly diagnosed patients from as far back as December 2017 had not received any of their beads or had any knowledge that the 'Beads of Courage' program existed. Cori has gone back months and months through each of the children's charts to get them caught up and/or started on the program. Each child has taken her a half a day or more to go through their EMR file. The families really appreciate her efforts; it is an example of extraordinary compassionate caring, and as a coworker, I am very thankful that she brought this program back to our attention and is working so meticulously to get it right.
Cori, thank you for sharing your many gifts with us at Wolfson; congratulations, you make us proud!
