J was scheduled for a complicated surgery that was to include 3 stages, first a biopsy and then the mediastinal procedure. When we arrived at pre-op at 5:30am, J was extremely anxious. As she waited in the pre-op area, Kristy and the anesthesiologist came to meet her. Kristy was reassuring and promised that she would call J's family regularly to keep us updated on the process and outcome of the biopsy and the subsequently lobectomy. J went off to the OR suite and I went to the surgical room. Kristy was amazing, she called me every 2 hours or more often to give updates on the surgery. She called with every update from the first biopsy to the next procedure-the lobectomy-and continued to reassure me J was doing well and the surgery was proceeding. She seemed to be aware when surgeries take longer than anticipated, anxiety for the families build as they wonder what is happening or going wrong. She called when the surgery was completed and gave an update with important details that would help us understand what took place and what to expect during recovery period, and when J might be going to a room.
Kristy was outstanding, she was able to answer all of my questions and gave very clear and precise answers and provided the information I needed so I did not miss the surgeons' report.
