Sara Raymond was my favorite nurse since she first came in when my mom was a patient on 4SW. Sara was informative, very kind, and compassionate. She was honest, yet gentle. I just felt a connection with her.
I asked Sara's personal opinion about my mom's status. I said, "I just want to know what you think and feel." I just wanted someone's opinion who was not a doctor. I did believe the doctors, but I needed to ask her if there was any hope. She looked at me with a look of sadness and honesty and said, "Honestly, there is none".
My mom was declining, and I knew she was slipping away. It was late and just about shift change. Sara expressed real genuine feelings and emotions of sympathy with us. I wished her a good night but wanted so bad for her to just stay with us.
As the minutes passed, my mom was slipping away, and the door opened and when I saw Sara, I was so relieved to have her there. She said, "I've been with this family all week and had to stop by the door before leaving." She stayed and cared for my mother and she was just amazing. She was so loving and kind. She didn't have to stay, but she did. She was there out of love, not because of work. She really deserves to know I really love and appreciate her!
