I have known Laura Jacobs for years and she has never failed to place patients, visitors, and her peers above all else. Laura is one of the most compassionate human beings I know. She always has a smile on her face and applies her faith in everything she does. I have spoken many times with Laura about her caring attitude and she simply explains to me that she always aims to leave people better and happier than when she first finds them.
Laura is recognized by everyone in the ED as easy going, knowledgeable and someone that you can count on. She is quick to offer help to other nurses as well as CNAs and they all appreciate her. Laura leans heavily on her faith in God and conducts herself with dignity, respect, and professionalism.
One night around 9 pm, a patient was being discharged from the ED. As Laura was leaving the patient's room, she continually wished the patient well and urged her to "just come on back if it doesn't get better and we'll fix you right up". The female patient continually thanked Laura and commented to me as she walked out, "that nurse is a Godsend, she treated me so good, I really appreciate how y'all treated me." I was not surprised to hear a patient singing Laura's praises because I have heard it before and I have witnessed her go above and beyond in her calling as a nurse.
I thoroughly enjoy seeing and working with Laura because she just makes you smile and makes the day better. Laura's personality, faith, bedside manner, and true caring for others are not things that can be taught. Laura is the total package when it comes to caring and truly being a good loving human being. She is a true credit to Novant Health and we are proud to call her "ours".
