Erica was recently floated to a 3 South and cared for a comfort care patient who was dying. She anticipated and responded to this patient's symptoms with incredible understanding and compassion. Comfort care patients don't require the same type or amount of nursing care that most patients require, they require even more. These types of patients are not on the orthopedic floor where Erica normally works, so this was an unusual experience for her.
She provided such loving, compassionate care, the best I've seen in several years! The patient died on Erica's shift, and she continued to show the same professional and compassionate care. She was a critical part of this patient's end-of-life care and provided her with a comfortable and dignified end to her life. Thank you Erica.
