When Susan first joined the Sequoia Hospital Lactation team, you could tell some wonderful changes were going to happen. She was excited, motivated and excelled at communication.
She connects with the new moms instantly. She is able to calm the most anxious mom or dad. She discovers (takes the time to discover) what families want for their newborn and she partners with them to make it happen. She always goes above and beyond. She set up a system of care plans within months of getting hired. She has developed a rapport with the neonatologists and nurses in the Special Care Nursery - which was so important to have a relationship built on trust as well as evidence based on practice.
There are not too many people who would go above and beyond duty to make sure a mom and baby are doing okay. I recently these past years have observed Susan encourage moms and make follow-up calls even if after hours.
