The patient has recently had an unfortunate and traumatic medical experience, and he was, prior to the surgery, reconsidering his decision to move forward with the surgery. Jock Stetz knew all of this and took it upon himself to personally visit the patient on numerous occasions throughout the course of the patient's post-op stay on our Surgical Unit.
The amazing thing about these visits that Jock made to the patient's room is that he was traveling just a few doors down from his own inpatient room where he was recovering following his own personal surgery experience! Sore, worn body, lugging along an IV pole, and, I'm sure, not really feeling very sociable, Jock put aside his personal needs to make sure that this patient had a friendly face and the emotional as well as professional support that he needed to face the challenge of those immediate postop days. This is truly an amazing personal sacrifice for the good of another human being and exemplifies the type of person he is!
