My delivery was a very complicated and scary one as I am a high-risk patient due to a blood disorder. Undergoing an emergency C-section while losing a large amount of blood made for a difficult and long post-partum recovery journey. Bree was my nurse both in the OR and for the first night of my post-partum stay. She managed to stay on top of all my medical needs (which were many), plus being an extra set of hands with my newborn.
It is frustrating as a C-section mom (who also pushed through labor and is high risk) to focus on recovery while wanting to be hands-on with your new baby. Sitting in bed unable to be mobile and independent is a hard feeling. Bree was exactly what I needed during this time when I felt defeated, sleep-deprived, and was dealing with all of the emotions that follow birth.
As I sat in my bed, tears flowing, Bree listened and responded with compassion. I asked for some tissues only to realize blowing my nose would cause me even more pain. She held a pillow to my belly - a single gesture that added even more emotion because of how kind that was to do for me. Bree is the nurse a patient needs when times get tough and you feel helpless. She is an advocate for her patients, has a great sense of humor, and she is thoughtful in her words and actions.
Thank you for all of your support, Bree! You made a positive impact on my post-partum journey of recovery.
