When I met Alli 4.5 years ago on the 6th floor at CHCO, I instantly looked up to her. She was so welcoming, kind, and warm. I could tell by the way she presented herself to families, patients, and other staff that she had a huge heart, and she truly cared about every single person she interacted with. Fast forward to today, and I continue to look up to her as a fellow nurse, and as a role model. It has been a pleasure and an honor working alongside her.
What makes Alli such a wonderful nurse is she always goes above and beyond for her patients and families. She continuously demonstrates patient advocacy as she always has her patients' best interest at heart. She truly cares for them as if they were her own family. Whether it's decorating a patient's room for their birthday, cracking jokes to make patients and parents laugh, or kneeling down next to her patient when they are in pain or not feeling well; regardless of the situation, Alli is always there to provide comfort and the utmost care.
An example of the extraordinary care Alli gives was a recent experience when she had to drop a salem sump tube on a teenager who had high anxiety. I assisted as helping hands, and what I witnessed was remarkable. Alli stood alongside this patient and calmly talked to him for twenty minutes to help decrease his fear. She offered encouragement and was very supportive of the patient's wishes as she never once attempted to place the tube without his permission. After the twenty minutes, the patient let her put the tube in, and I must say it was one of the calmest tube placements I have ever seen. He did not once try to take the tube out or move away from it; he was successfully able to tolerate the procedure which I believe was all due to Alli and her nurturing presence. This experience was very inspiring to watch because as nurses we get so caught up in the tasky side of our profession, that we tend to rush through things and forget to take the time to actually stop and connect with our patients.
In addition to providing exceptional patient care, Alli is also a phenomenal resource for the staff on the 6th floor. She is extremely knowledgeable, always seems to have a solution for everything, and can troubleshoot any problem. She is always looking out for the wellbeing of all the other nurses, CAs, and ISSs and never hesitates to offer help. Even on stressful shifts, her compassion, and friendliness always radiate off her. Alli is the perfect nurse, and she is such an asset to CHCO; we are very lucky to have her as part of our 6th Floor family.
