Emily is a great nurse who has been a part of the Clinical Resource Team for several years. One day Emily was serving on D9, and part of her assignment was caring for two of our patients, brothers, with chronic medical needs. This was not the first time she had cared for this family, but the care she provided made such a profound impact that the mother wrote a letter of gratitude for Emily that filled the page! Here are the mother's words:
"Emily, Thank you so much for everything you have done for my little guys. Every trip to the hospital is different for us. There are always a few nurses who honestly make me feel like they care about my kids. This trip you have definitely made me feel like my little ones matter to you. It's not just because of you going out of your way to help us get out of here either. I really enjoyed you being their nurse since the first day we had you. I am sure that you treat all of your patients this way, but I want to make sure you know that it doesn't go unnoticed or unappreciated! As terrible as I have felt some days I'm always excited to have you on our team! You are great at what you do!"
The care Emily provided exemplifies what it means to be a pediatric nurse. It's more than giving medication, assessing medical needs, completing tasks, and charting. It is providing the holistic care that gives comfort to the patient and their parents. It's instilling confidence in the parents concerning the care we are providing and gaining their trust that we will do what's right because we truly care about them and their children!
