Jim Hunt was nominated by several Harrison Medical Center employees. His nomination is a compilation of comments.
Jim is dependable, courteous, professional, proficient, knowledgeable, respectful, and supportive. Where does one start when describing Jim? His abilities seem endless. His calming and compassionate ways disarms even the most agitated of patients. Safe patient care is synonymous with Jim. In CAT Scans, Jim seems to materialize when you need him. One of the best nurses I have known with exceptional work ethics. He is a valuable asset to any, and all, departments where quality, ethics, and professionalism are needed. As a medical imaging nurse, Jim is an invaluable co-worker.
I have no hesitation in recommending Jim for the DAISY Award. Jim is a dedicated professional who strives for—and achieves—exceptionally high standards in patient care. He is the first to respond to any emergent situation. Jim is always willing to learn new techniques and procedures to improve the efficiency in Medical Imaging. Jim demonstrates respect when caring for patients and their families, making each one feel as though there the only one in his care. The first stop for many of our ultrasound patients is the MICU. Patients and family
members often comment on how caring and compassionate Jim is during their short stay there. His warmth and caring, as well as his wonderful sense of humor, make him the one you want at your bedside.
Jim is one of the most compassionate nurses I've had the privilege to work with. He is always willing to lend a hand. He clocks in early to go up to the floor to start IV’s. He always really listens to the patient. The ability to really listen is sometimes the most important thing to the suffering patient, and the most appreciated. Jim is gentle and kind. He always enters a room with a smile. In the nine years I have worked with him, I had never seen him stressed or upset. He is a role model for all nurses and I'm so glad to have him among my peers.
Jim is extraordinary at his job. He is always able to befriend any patient and always provides a calming and welcoming atmosphere. He jumps at the chance to help. He is even-tempered, happy, and an asset to any team. I always relax when Jim is around because I know I'll get the help I need, with a smile.
The other day I brought a patient down to Medical Imaging for a PICC line. She was nervous, anxious, and apprehensive to have the procedure done and almost refused to have it placed. We got to the Medical Imaging department and as we went around the corner there was Jim waiting at the doorway to greet the patient and welcome her to x-ray. After explaining to Jim the patients worries, fears, and apprehension, he immediately comforted the patient with
words of encouragement and compassion and walked this patient step-by-step through the process. The best part was when she got the PICC line, she didn’t feel a thing! Jim is an awesome, caring, and compassionate, nurse who is an asset to Harrison and would be a great DAISY Award winner.
Jim demonstrates exceptional patient care every time I work with him. Jim is always professional and courteous to his patients. He is always eager to help his fellow employees.
I have known Jim for a number of years and the things about him that have never changed are his compassion, his skills, his heartfelt acts, and his going above and beyond.
I truly believe Jim is amazing while in a hospital setting. He is aware of his surroundings and is always calm and focused. He displays an attitude that we all should have. I watch him greet and explain procedures in perfect detail to each patient. I observe the patient understand him and become calmed by his presence and words. I truly think Jim is an asset, along with a great person, to have at Harrison. I enjoy him as a co-worker and hope I am affected by his amazing care and attitude. Every time I bring patients to Jim for PICC lines he displays these amazing traits.
I brought a patient to Jim in the MICU and he introduced himself and explained the procedure clearly and with good humor. I could tell that the patient, who was nervous, was a lot more relaxed after having their questions answered. Jim showed the equipment to the patient and explained how everything worked. The patient was clearly more relaxed having everything explained and Jim built a nice relationship with them. Every time I transport a patient that Jim has been involved with, they always have positive comments. He is a great nurse to have in Medical Imaging.
I am a transporter for Radiology. I brought a patient to Jim who had been poked with countless needles trying to start an IV. The patient was in tears when I got to the room. I assured her Jim is the best nurse we have and he can start an IV on anyone. When we got to MICU Jim was waiting to greet us like a guest. He immediately saw the patients discomfort and started to make her feel at home. Jim’s kind words and honest tone of voice have a way to bring the patients anxiety level down. He started an IV with the ultrasound machine in one shot. If the patient wasn’t so sick she would have given Jim a hug. If Jim is not DAISY Award material, I don’t know who is.
It was a very busy morning in CT and both of our Medical Imaging nurses were in sterile procedures. Our patient was patiently waiting for a nurse to use the ultrasound machine to place a difficult IV that was necessary for her exam. Jim was present but not scheduled to start for a while. When he realized the delay that was affecting our patient, he immediately stopped what he was doing, clocked in early, and quickly placed the needed IV. The CT exam was completed, the patient left happy, and had a great experience. While this may not be an earth shaking situation, Jim’s actions and pleasant demeanor turned a potential negative experience into a truly positive one that the patient will remember. After all, it is the day-to-day excellence that makes a DAISY Award winner stand out. Jim often offers to take patients back to their rooms or to the Emergency Department. He helps get supplies for procedures and turns the room around. Pillows and warm blankets appear magically just when they are needed. When
he is not recovering patients in sterile procedures, or doing a myriad of other nursing duties, he is always in the department seeking ways to help out. This is one of our special DAISY Award winners, one that shines for us every day!
Jim makes every patient feel safe before any and every procedure whether he is involved or not. He has the wisdom and knowledge to explain every procedure and if he doesn’t know, which is rare, he will quickly find an answer. He has made so many family members feel at ease—including myself. I had my grandparents cared for by him almost 20 years ago and my father a few years ago.
