In September I had surgery at Magee Hospital. During this most recent surgery, I had some difficulties in the recovery room with anesthesia. While in the recovery room, I would experience some mild nausea and my heart rate was falling into the low 30's bpm.
I could feel it coming on each time, and I would tell my recovery room nurse, Jamie. The second time, again my heart rate fell to about 31 bpm, Jamie immediately notified my physician and the anesthesiologist. She prepared some medicine to give me should it occur again. The third time, and once again falling into the low 30's, Jamie immediately gave me the medicine, and by that time all physicians were in the room, including the cardiologist who had also been called in. The cardiologist assured me that it was brought on by the anesthesia.
During this recovery, I was continually told by my nurse and the physicians not to worry and they were going to take good care of me. Although, I was still feeling groggy from the anesthesia and was not feeling well with the onset of bradycardia and nausea, I was aware of my nurse Jamie, and how she was handling the situation. I felt assured because I knew she was "on top of the situation" and was not going to let anything happen to me.
While I was at Magee for a follow-up appointment, I went to the recovery room to give Jamie a hug and tell her how much I appreciated her and that she was on top of my situation. I was thankful for her as a nurse. Thankful that she took good care of me.
I was a patient that day, but I have worked in health care for about 22 years. I pride myself in how I take care of my patients and the quality of service I provide. I recognize outstanding care, and I believe that is what I received from Jamie Michaels in the recovery room!
