When we first came to our room, we had to wait while the room was being cleaned. Kyle apologized that the room was not ready (not his fault), then he said that he'd prefer Mom not to have red Jell-O since her problem was bleeding (orange was ok-just not red). Then he saw that exact message come through on the computer, so he knew not to eat red food before the doctor told him. We felt confident he knew his stuff which was reassuring.
Mom asked for another blanket, which he got right away. He wrote all the necessary info on the whiteboard in nice big print, so Mom could see it. He was gentle and patient, listening to my nearly 90-year-old mother chat away, telling stories. When it was time for me to leave, I needed directions back to my car which was parked outside the ED. He managed to find directions on bright orange paper that led me back to my car. He also verbally gave me directions to where to park in the deck so that I would be closer to the Forrest Park building when I came back the next morning.
Before he left for the evening, he introduced Mom to her new nurse. He absolutely went above and beyond what is expected of an RN. Also (how could I forget) he was the only one that had scissors on him to cut the extra band length on her wrist band. (P.S.-all of this when he could have been home for Thanksgiving).
