I have worked with Stephanie Senior for almost 2 years. I am writing this nomination not for one specific incident, but for multiple. Stephanie is one of the most knowledgeable, caring, patient nurses/people I know. She goes above and beyond in caring for her patients and their family members and everyone around her.
On countless occasions while I'm working in my office, which is right outside the main nurse's station on 4E, I can hear Stephanie interacting with visitors, family members, physicians, and anyone who happens to call the front desk. She speaks so professionally at all times and explains procedures/tests to families/visitors in a way they can fully understand. She takes the extra time to explain in full detail what the patient will experience prior to the procedure and the following days after.
She motivates her co-workers and helps when the unit is busy, even if she has her own set of patients. Her positive attitude during stressful situations is what keeps everyone around her calm and makes the situation and day go by smoothly. She is a nurse whom others look up to and go to for help.
Recently, we had a fellow co-worker have some complications after she delivered her baby. The baby had to be transferred to another hospital, which meant mom would be out of work for longer than she expected. Stephanie organized a lunch fundraiser in which she spent money out of her own pocket to purchase food, to-go containers, drinks, etc. She, along with other 4East staff members, served over 100 plates of food within 3 hours and raised over one thousand dollars! We all joked and called it "Stephanie's catering service". This isn't the first incident where she has participated in organizing fundraisers for her fellow co-workers.
Her heart is, not only in nursing but in everyone around her. She strives to make sure everyone around her is taken care of. I have never seen Stephanie in a bad mood, have a negative attitude, or say anything disrespectful about anyone. She boosts morale in her co-workers every time she is on shift.
4East and Ascension Providence are lucky to have Stephanie on their team!
