On the night of October 26th into the early morning of the 27th; a telemetry patient suffered a code STEMI. This happens rarely on the telemetry unit, so the staff there do not develop a familiarity with the process. I went up to help and immediately called Sheena for help with the paperwork we would need. Sheena not only sent up the necessary paperwork, she came herself bringing the STEMI box from the ED, just in case we needed to use any of the medications in it. I would like to say that the telemetry staff were doing an excellent job in caring for this patient, but Sheena's expertise in knowing exactly what to do in the case of a STEMI was invaluable.
She helped everyone stay calm, facilitated getting EMS on standby in case the helicopter could not come, and led the group in caring for the patient.
I have worked with Sheena for quite some time now as charge nurse of the Emergency Department, and she consistently shows that she is dedicated to true teamwork. She is always out helping get in Medic patients, helps with other critical patients, and is an all-around "go to" person when the staff has needs.
Sheena also is constantly making sure the patients in the lobby are kept informed of why they are waiting, making sure that families are looked after, and tries to get what is best for each and every patient.
Last night, with the STEMI patient, I did not ask her to come up to telemetry and help, she just did it, and she truly made a difference to the life of the patient having the STEMI.
I very much appreciate working with Sheena and am proud to have her on the CMC-Lincoln team. She truly deserves the DAISY Award!
