...Kim was my grandfather's nurse that day, when his condition had taken a turn for the worse. I was there with my grandmother & aunt before anyone else had gotten there. Kim was very busy, attending to my grandfather's needs while explaining to us everything she was doing and what the intended results would be. As it became clearer that my grandfather's health was failing, Kim explained to us that grandpa could still hear us, though he wouldn't remember what we said later, due to the amnesia effect on his medicine. But she looked at me and said, "If this were my grandpa, now is the time that I would tell him that I love him."
We were so appreciative for the care grandpa received that day and the amount of confidence, decision making, and ultimately the compassion Kim presented toward our family. It was difficult, but her attention to my grandpa and to our family at the time was very comforting.
