I want to nominate Amanda for a DAISY award. Ever since my son was born Amanda has been taking care of him. She goes out of her way to make sure that we are taken care of in every way. She is always prompt with everything, keeps me informed on all of the changes in my son's care and listens to my questions and concerns and helps me understand all I need to in every way she can. I wanted to talk about 2 specific times where Amanda really went above and beyond for us. Our son has spent every birthday in the hospital. This year, his third birthday, I woke up at 7:30 a.m. with balloons, streamers, the windows painted with "happy birthday" and a sign hanging from his wall that read "Happy Birthday, A****." I had been really upset that yet another year he would be here on his birthday. She made it so he work up knowing that it was a special day for him and made it special for me as well. She checked in on us that day often to make sure everything was going well. It was really nice to see that she cared. The second thing I wanted to mention: our son was having a very bad day pain-wise and I was butting heads with the doctors. Amanda took the time to sit down with me, listen to all I had to say and relay my questions and concerns to the team. Amanda is one of those nurses that really seems like she is dedicated and loves what she does. Sometimes it is hard being in the hospital for so long with your child and the days that Amanda is here and is our nurse I feel like I have a friend here to advocate for me and my son. I wanted her to know how much I appreciate what she has done for us over the past 3 years and what she means to us as a nurse and friend. Thanks!
