On two separate occasions Joy has done an outstanding job helping stabilize two patients in the OB department. On the first occasion, we had a critical newborn that she helped stabilize and transfer by helping intubate, place an IV line, and place a chest tube. The baby was transferred after several hours and had a good outcome.
The second situation was just week when a 29 week pregnant patient arrived in pre-term labor. Joy stepped in and helped stabilize the patient by starting her IV, calling for transfer, getting accepting physician to allow other OB nurses to deal with other patients who was in active labor and two fresh C Sections (this was after she had worked a busy 12 hour shift in the ED). She was also helpful in keeping the patient calm by letting her know what was going on at all times. I also have seen her educating her patients and families on the plan of care in such a way that they can understand. Joy is always willing to teach and step in anytime staff needs help.
