It was a Saturday afternoon and a patient who had surgery was preparing to be discharged to go home. The patient was prescribed and needed specific medications for healing. As it was Saturday evening, the patient's pharmacy did not have the needed medication and would not have it until the afternoon of the following day. Also, many local pharmacies were already closed. Dawn knew the medications were needed for the health of the patient, so she stayed after the end of her shift and made many telephone calls to pharmacies. Due to Dawn's perseverance, a pharmacy with the needed medication was located. The patient was able to get the medication she needed in a timely manner. As the patient was leaving the hospital she stated, "I am very impressed with Dawn for going above and beyond to help me."
Dawn is a great educator to patients and their family, and she is helpful to her co-workers. A caring and uplifting environment have been shown to improve the healing process. She maintains a positive attitude and smiles, which is beneficial for recovery. She will stop-the-line for patient safety and she strives to provide the best care possible.
