Janet is one of the wound/ostomy nurses who assists in the care of patients with feeding tubes, ostomies, or any wounds/skin breakdown in the ER, hospital, ICU, or clinic. Every day she is devoted to making life better for children. She is proactive and addresses problems before they become situations with her vast experience, compassion, and drive.
A child came to the clinic with a feeding tube that was leaking. Janet attempted to troubleshoot the tube without success. It needed to be replaced. She coordinated with fluoroscopy to change the tube but it was not sufficient for his feeds. She took the patient to radiology and coordinated his care. Once it was discovered that the tube needed to be replaced in the OR, she coordinated the transfer of that patient from clinic to the OR. Janet was by his side ensuring that his problem was fixed. No matter what it took. It was her knowledge, skill, and perseverance that ensured this patient received prompt, competent, compassionate care.
Janet's excellent care of patients allows the surgery service to run as efficiently as it does. She takes the time to really understand the patient's social situation and education level and teaches them appropriately. She takes the time to educate other services, including medical students and residents, on the care of these patients as well. It is her teaching to the families/hospital teams and her care of our patients that prevents complications, increases patient compliance, increases patient satisfaction, and improves patient recovery. Her professional demeanor, her compassion for her patients, and her teaching to the patients and the staff exemplify the best in nursing.

Janet is an outstanding member of the team who routinely goes above and beyond to care for our patients. She is available at a moment's notice to the ER, OR, ICUs, clinics, floor, and family on the phone. She knows her craft better than anyone else and is able to care for the most complex wounds, teach the most confused patients, and work with the most challenging team members without hesitation or complaint. When Janet is caring for my patients, I have no doubt they will be cared for with compassion and competence.

Janet defines the true meaning of an INTELLEGENT, COMPASSIONATE, AND DEDICATED nurse. She reflects the true values of Children's Medical Center. Janet is masterful in her position as a wound and ostomy care nurse and is a beneficial asset to the GI Clinic. She is always willing to educate, assist, and provide her expertise to our team and our families. She is appreciated and loved by many! Janet is a wound and ostomy ROCK STAR, and without her, our clinic would have a void.
