I proudly nominate Mary Mickle from the ICU for the Daisy Award. I have worked with Mary on the unit for over six years. I have yet to meet a nurse like her. She is greatly respected and loved by her colleagues. We all believe that she is in a class of her own. She personifies a “Daisy” 24 hours a day, seven days a week! That may sound too good to be true, but anyone who knows her, or who has come in contact with her, would probably nod, smile and say, “That’s Mary!” Words could not adequately describe how extraordinary of a nurse that Mary is. She always goes the extra mile for patients. It is the standard of care for her. Nurses feel a sense of calm when they see her. They know she will leave no stone unturned. Working with Mary on the unit is a joy. She is a valuable mentor to me and countless others. She has assisted me through stressful situations that have occurred when taking care of critically ill patients. Despite how busy she is with her own patients, she does not hesitate to offer an extra hand. I believe she is an inspiration to all of us who aspire to be the best nurse we know we can be!
