I'm the mother of A, who is 11-years-old, and had knee surgery with Dr. T. Going into it, I was so nervous for my son to be put to sleep and I was working really hard to keep my emotions at bay. I was trying to be strong in front of him, so he would be trusting that everything would be fine. I could tell that he was also nervous heading in that morning.
Lisa Seeds came in right away, cheerful and silly. She put us all at ease, had us laughing out loud and kind of forgetting to be nervous. I was so impressed with her and grateful that she seemed to know we needed that. She made us feel like this was a normal thing and that it was all going to be ok.
After A was wheeled away, I couldn't help but cry because all my emotions came out after seeing him be wheeled away. Lisa consoled me then and I told her how grateful for her I was and the care she gave us, keeping everything light. I have a friend who is in Bon Secours nursing school and she told me that "they'll treat him like he's their own", and they sure did! We are incredibly happy with how he was cared for and that they go the extra mile to support the parents. It is incredibly scary for your child to have surgery for the first time. A is doing well two weeks later and feels the same way about his care. Thank you for helping us all feel okay!
