Sierra consistently demonstrates passion and commitment to the profession of nursing. She is always willing to help her coworker and any patient on the unit. Recently, a coworker's patient was declining, and we called an RRT. Sierra stepping in to assist with documentation and assisted transferring the patient to the ICU. She even stayed to place a foley before returning to our unit.
Another example is one night we had a patient that was detoxing from alcohol. This was not her patient, but she was orienting a new nurse and had some time to be a resource. This patient was becoming very agitated and aggressive. Sierra, in her angelic way, sat next to him, built a rapport, and helped calm him down. Once he was calm, she left the room, but he again got agitated and tried to leave the unit. Sierra came to talk to him. She made eye contact with the patient, reminded him he was safe, and then walked with him back to his room. Then she offered to take care of him for the rest of the shift since he had made a trusting relationship with her. This was a relief to not only his nurse but also to me as the supervisor that night. She really helped us in a very difficult situation as only Sierra can.
Her happy and welcoming personality shined from day one. She is always recognized by staff for her willingness to help and her kindness. She brings up our mood with her positive and energetic outlook on work and life in general. She is a go-getter. She is a member of our UBC, SWAT committee, Unit Scheduler. She is also a preceptor for new nurses. Sierra is a gem, a shining star, and an angel that we are immensely honored to have her in our unit.
