Saint Luke’s East – Lee’s Summit
Nicole is the epitome of compassion and professionalism in nursing. She genuinely enjoys building relationships with patients, families, and peers as she delivers the highest quality care. Nicole brings a wealth of critical care nursing experience to her role and is a strong resource for peers and physicians. She is known throughout the hospital as a role model for both experienced and novice nurses alike. Nicole is a well-respected Team Leader in the ICU, who frequently responds to Rapid Response, Code Blue, and STEMI activations throughout the facility. She always jumps into the emergent situation, coordinates care and teaches less experienced staff throughout the process. She is calm, collaborative and always respectful in her communication. Nicole has earned the trust of all those she works alongside. She demonstrates her commitment to teamwork each shift and is always available to support new initiatives and process changes. She welcomes each new staff member with enthusiasm, respecting and recognizing the contribution that each individual brings to the team.
Nicole has been instrumental in the development of the Intensive Care Unit at Saint Luke’s East Lee’s Summit. She was an original member of the opening team in 2006 and has continued to expand her leadership skills by mentoring peers and facilitating both unit level and hospital wide shared governance activities. She is able to balance the stressors of multiple responsibilities, while always maintaining a positive, energetic attitude.
An ICU peer states: “Nicole models professional, caring behavior day in and day out. She has extraordinary clinical skills and knowledge, which she uses to provide high quality, evidence- based care to her patients. She also educates peers to increase their knowledge and experience. Her teamwork and commitment to co-workers is phenomenal. She is more than deserving of this outstanding nursing award.”
A family member of a patient states: “When my mother was in the hospital, although Nicole wasn’t her primary nurse, she was there when my mother needed her. The doctor had prescribed a medication to help my mother relax at bedtime. Nicole came in with a warm blanket, tucked it around my mother, talked to her softly for a few minutes and rubbed her head. That night my mother didn't need her medication to go to sleep because of the TLC she received from Nicole. Every time I see Nicole, I think of the extra time she took with us that evening. Those few minutes provided comfort for my mother and also for me.”
