We are at PAP clinic at Cruzot (detention center for newly released inmates/transitioning shelter) and we are busy. Today, Michelle is working hard like always, but she still takes time to talk to these women. I always get the comments about how nice she is, but a few women came out crying after seeing her today. I asked one of the ladies what happened in there and they said that no one had been that nice to them in a long time. (Our patients often get stereotyped and are easily judged by their past.) These women are in a tough spot and a lot of them have pasts but Michelle doesn't care. She talks with them, laughs with them, cries with them, and makes them feel so comfortable. We have a lot of great nurses here at HOMES and we are very blessed but it's like Michelle goes the extra mile to make their day. I sort of get a little misty-eyed typing this because I can see these women back out in the waiting room with just a little tear in their eye and a little smirk on their face as she has brightened another life. this is what we are here for and I believe that Michelle goes the extra mile. Michelle is a true DAISY Nurse.

Michelle has such a big heart. She is especially good with our pediatric patients, some of whom have been traumatized. Michelle speaks to every patient in a soothing tone and truly listens to her concerns and fears. We had a teenage patient who was in an unhealthy relationship, and Michelle counseled her in a way that stressed the patient's inherent worth and tried to build her up to be able to leave her boyfriend. Michelle's voice and demeanor are as sweet as honey. You would never guess the hardships she has endured in her life as she exudes nothing but sunshine. She is steely strong under her warm smile. It is an honor to work with her.
