Kathleen was going to the Basement Bistro, when coming off the stairs she was asked by a male Rehab Services team member if she could assist an elderly female visitor into the bathroom. Kathleen took the visitor into the bathroom with no hesitation. She helped the visitor onto the toilet. The visitor reassured her that her sister was coming with a fresh brief and that she just wanted to sit for a few minutes. Kathleen told her that she would give her some privacy and be back to check on her in a couple of minutes. When going back in to check on the visitor, she was still sitting on the toilet with no sign of her sister. Kathleen took it upon herself to come back upstairs to MICU, grab gloves, wipes, and a fresh brief. Kathleen went back downstairs, assisted the visitor in getting cleaned and a fresh brief on.
To some, this may not be much, but to this visitor, it meant the world. The visitor was then able to go visit her family member without worry.
Kathleen displays the characteristics of a DAISY Nurse on a daily basis. She is caring, kind and compassionate to everyone she encounters, whether they are a visitor in need of assistance, her patient, her patient's family members or her team members.
