Kelli was a nurse assigned to a patient in the WIS Department for induction of labor. The induction went well and there were no concerns leading up to delivery time. Kelli had developed a good rapport with the family and found out that they had no family in the area and the closest relatives were in Minnesota. This patient had an uneventful delivery, however, there was respiratory distress in the neonate immediately after birth. It appeared that there was a possible genetic condition affecting the neonate and the baby was transferred to a higher level of care facility for evaluation. The following day, Kelli drove 45 minutes to a sister facility to provide emotional and grievance support for the family in need.
Not only does Kelli provide exceptional care while at work, she has become a real patient advocate, going out of her way, on her own time to make sure a patient has the support of a familiar face in time of need. Sometimes it is the smallest thing in life that mean the most to people. The family expressed how important her support was to them and will be forever grateful for the care they received from her.
