Our patients and their families love Leanne. I have seen this first hand at the annual Pediatric Cancer Christmas party. The children and parents line up to say hello and just to give her a hug. Leanne is one of the leads that organizes the Christmas party as well as the summer picnic celebration for the Oncology patients that receive their care at the Keyser Center at the Advocate Children's Hospital Oak Lawn Campus.
Leanne went above and beyond for one of our pediatric oncology patients recently. It was a Saturday morning and one of our inpatient Oncology patients needed their port-a-cath accessed. The patient had a new port that had not been seen or used by the inpatient side very much. After 2 attempts at accessing the port without success, it was decided that someone from the clinic would be the best option at getting this done. It should be noted that the clinic is closed on Saturday. Leanne was called and she quickly and gladly came in. She accessed the port without difficulty. She was not on call or required to come in, she did it because she cares greatly for the patients that she serves.
