Mary Edith affectionately known as "MEW", is one of our experienced NICU nurses. She delivers care with compassion to our tiny babies and their families. MEW loves taking care of the sickest babies in the NICU. She's very knowledgeable in her art - nursing. Through her knowledge and experience, she's able to anticipate the needs of our NICU families and gives the attention families need, the calm reassurance that they need that their beloved child is in good hands (MEW's hands!). She knows the benefits of the bond between mother and child and encourages Kangaroo care for mother and child to be together.
Recently MEW assisted a mom to kangaroo her baby. The baby had extremely high heart rate and as soon as that baby was placed on its mother's bosom, you could see the heart rate on the monitor begin to normalize. The smile on that mother's face was priceless.
The "Art of Nursing" making a difference.
MEW is also one of our NICU preceptors and you can always tell when that individual nurse has completed orientation with MEW as their preceptor. She goes above and beyond and it's not just a job to MEW.
The Art of Nursing - NICU nursing - has been MEW's calling.
