After an 11-hour surgery and 2-hour PACU stay, my son was moved to 9th floor. We were all exhausted. Bailey welcomed us and was informative about the floor rules, amenities, and plan for the night. Throughout the night, the baby was very fussy and having a lot of pain, not controlled by the prescribed meds. Bailey was on the phone with the doctors, even without my asking. About midnight-1AM, I noticed significant changes in the baby's abdominal swelling which was affecting his breathing. The pain was terrible. I called Bailey in to assess him. She really listened to me. She didn't try to write me off with the pat answer "that's to be expected". She was on top of it and called "CHAT" right away. The ICU team came and was also great. They moved baby to PICU and he had to be re-intubated so he could get the level of pain management needed to assist his respiratory status. It all went very smoothly, Bailey kept me updated until I was able to go in with the baby. This situation could have played so differently if Bailey had not been on her toes and so quick thinking. Her attitude towards the family was stellar and she treated the whole family that night.
Almost a week and a half later, my baby was moved back to 9th floor Harbert and we had the privilege of having Bailey as our nurse for several nights. She was her usual smiling self and made me feel right at home. She was fabulous with the baby and respectful of our need to sleep. She took extra effort to come and go out of the door quietly, knowing the baby was extremely sensitive to noise. It's little things that make a long stay more pleasant. We so appreciate Bailey. She is a great example of going the extra mile.
