When a patient with a cognitive disability was admitted for heart pain, it was determined that the patient would need coronary bypass surgery. Patricia Schlosser, Medical Telemetry, quickly picked up on the patient's fears and stepped in to offer a calm and reassuring voice. Her ability to provide compassionate and quality care is the reason she was honored with a DAISY Award.
According to her nomination form, Patricia came to her patient's room the night before the procedure to offer reassurance. She told the patient, "If you can remember one rule, then listen to your nurses. They will guide you."
"I am deeply touched that the family would go out of their way to nominate me. We see so many people every day. It's just what we do. You knew how special that patient was by the amount of love and support in the room," Patricia said.
"It's all about meeting the needs of the patients. The goal is to provide them with the knowledge and teach them the skills they need to live their lives to their fullest potential. Everything I do comes from the other side of the bed. I've been there. I've been that mom."
