Jody is truly an extraordinary nurse who provides compassionate care towards patients and their families. She keeps unit morale up with her positive attitude and is a valuable mentor and team player. The hospital is not a place that anyone wants to visit, especially on birthdays or holidays. A patient was in the hospital and it was his wife's birthday. Jody helped this patient get flowers and a cake so that he could surprise his wife. She empowered this patient, which allowed him to feel capable of being able to do something for someone else while in the hospital. The patient's wife told me how special that was and could not believe that we would help him out with this. This is not a onetime occurrence for Jody. She also got small cupcakes and gathered staff to sing happy birthday to a patient while at the hospital.
She always goes above and beyond to make the patient's experience a positive one. She will advocate for patients and encourage them to reach their fullest potential. In a hospital setting, it can be difficult to get rest which is absolutely necessary for healing. She plans patient care and education around rest and relaxation time. She will even put a sign on the patient's door to come see her before entering the room to try and limit some disruptions.
Jody interacts very well with patients and families and does an excellent job using various teaching methods so patients and their families can understand. I enjoy working with her and being around her positive attitude. Jody is a mentor and team player on the unit. You can go to her with any question and she will help you find the answer or the resource that you need, she is the type of nurse that helps without you having to even ask for it. Anytime there is a critical situation with a patient, she will be there in the room helping the entire team to get the situation under control.
In addition to all of her other qualities she is a very intelligent nurse with a wide skill set, who shares her knowledge with other nurses as well as the residents. Jody is a true DAISY Nurse.
