Sarah is an amazing nurse who is a testimony of our core values, mission, and vision at all times. She is very kind, compassionate, and caring with her patients and peers. She exhibits great passion, kindness, and care to our patients and her coworkers.
One of our patients at the Behavioral Medicine Center was having some challenges controlling his anger and outburst behavior which was escalating very rapidly. Many staff members tried to calm the patient down or reason out with him but nothing seemed to work until Sarah stepped in. By this time, we had called a code gray (combative person) to keep the staff and other patients safe. This patient was challenging the entire staff that came down to control the situation—about 12 male nurses. Sara very kindly spoke to the patient and requested him to discuss what he was upset about with her. The patient stormed into his room and Sarah followed. Sarah was pregnant at the time and the staff was concerned for her, but she signaled not to follow her to the rest of the staff. She spoke to this patient over 15 minutes and the patient came out of his room as a totally different person. He apologized for his unruly behaviors with tears in his eyes. He was not restrained and seclusion was not needed due to Sarah's compassionate care for this patient.
Sarah is a great team member who lives by our values on a daily basis. She is compassionate not only to her staff but to her peers and anyone who comes in contact with her. She is extraordinary!
