While rounding in the ED on admit holds I encountered a young gentleman who requested to speak with me. This visitor was here over the weekend with a significant other who was having some health issues and required a lengthy stay in the ED with eventual transfer to another facility. The visitor states that he and his partner were very anxious and stressed to be in the ED. While they stated all the staff was great, they really wanted to share the impact that one particular nurse had on their experience. He went on to say that Debra made them feel like they were her only patient, even though they knew we were busy and she had multiple patients. He went on to say that Debra was very reassuring and compassionate when dealing with his partner, they felt that the care he received was very personal and individualized which gave them confidence in our hospital.
Anyone who knows Debra or has worked with her knows that she is this way with all of her patients, always willing to stop what she is doing to meet the needs of a patient. She truly cares about the person and wants to help them however she can. She is a great mentor to other nurses and someone who always wants to give her best to every patient she encounters.
