Samantha has taken care of my sister many times since she has been receiving care at St. Anthony's Medical Center. My sister is often fighting for her life, making it really hard for us as her family. It is always refreshing to walk in and see her smiling because she is so happy with her nurse. She has been sick most of her life and has been taken care of by thousands of nurses, but none of whom have taken the extra steps like Samantha. Samantha comes in with a smile on her face and is always ready to help. She takes the time to really get to know my sister. Sam knows my sister's ticks, right after giving her pain medicine that often makes her itch, she immediately offers her Benadryl to help without having to call and ask for it. Often Sam knows what she wants or needs before we even have time to ask. She is prompt with every single request. But although Sam is really above and beyond with patient care for our sister that is not the only reason that she stands out to us. Sam has taken extra time of her day to join our family in a prayer circle when my sister was at her sickest times. Sam remembers us, her family members, always greeting us with a smile and checking on us to see how we are doing. Most importantly though, Sam makes my sister feel special. She recently spent her 33rd birthday in the ICU and Sam went out of her way to get my sister a balloon as a gift. She was not even assigned to her that day, but still went out of herway to check on her and make her feel special. This meant a lot to us because Sam goes above and beyond the call of duty. She really takes care of the whole family. She takes extra time out of her personal life to do something that has no benefit to herself but will make her patient smile. After visiting my sister in numerous hospitals, I can honestly say that I have never met a nurse who cares as much as Sam. Overall she provides the best care to our sister all of the time, without any questions asked.
