While in CCU I received excellent care from all the staff and I consider them a field of daisies! Shelly Lilley was one of the RNs that I was fortunate to have that stayed with me the first day of my stay. I was not only getting over the initial shock of having a massive heart attack, but my family was also trying to understand and digest not only the fact that the next 24-48 hours were "touch and go" for me but also all the medical terminology that was being told them. Shelly was right there for me not only with quality care but also someone that would answer my questions as well as my family's.
My wife has shared with me that when Shelly left her shift that day, she took a diagram of the heart out to the waiting area because she knew that my wife had a lot of questions about my blockages. Not only did she explain to her where the blockages were with the diagram, but she also took the time to answer any and all questions from my family and friends. She stayed after her shift almost 20 minutes to patiently answer all questions with a smile on her face as if she had not just worked a 12-hour shift and needed to go home. To my family and I that is going above and beyond the normal duties of a nurse and is well deserving of a DAISY Award as well as any other recognition Carilion offers for their staff.
