In every aspect of patient care Stacey Doxey is an amazing patient advocate. Currently, in GICU we have a very large family that is struggling with end of life issues with their mother, who is 90+ years old. Stacey has pulled out all of the stops to make sure that this family has whatever they need during this most difficult time. Not only has she made sure the family has spoken with all of the physicians, chaplains and palliative care team members, she has spent both on duty and off duty time dedicated to meeting the needs of the patient and family. She has such a caring heart and an innate ability to understand and empathize, she knows when being present with the family is all they need and she knows when they need her to explain something, even though she may have said this numerous times before, she always has a way of explaining it as though it is the first time.
While caring in this fashion may be uncommon for some, it is certainly the norm for Stacey. This particular family commented that they were adding a new special branch to their family tree just for Stacey!
