Let me start by saying Julie Smith, RN, labor and delivery is an outstanding nurse who exceeds in excellence!
I was at RMH for a scheduled C-section. I was very nervous due to being sick the day before and also missing my other young child. Due to being sick the day before I was extremely dehydrated. I informed Julie upon arriving and she quickly got IV fluids into me and got my nausea under control. She ok'd the surgery with my doctor and anesthesiologist because we were concerned about doing surgery since I had just been sick. I have very little veins to begin with and due to being dehydrated they were even smaller. Before she even attempted to stick me for the IV she used her resources and wrapped both my arms in warm blankets. Then she got the IV on her first attempt and let me tell you everyone who saw my IV while I was a patient there said 'someone does good work'. The location was even great. She thought ahead and asked me if I was left handed or right handed because it matters when it comes to holding the baby.
She stayed with me during the C-section and made me feel so comfortable. I know she could tell I was ready to cry sitting on the operating table waiting on the spinal because she looked into my eyes and said, 'Don't worry, I will be here with you through the whole thing'. That meant the world to me to see that she cared! My mother is also an RN and has been for 35 plus years, so let me tell you that I am very picky when it comes to nurses and my expectations of them. Julie made me feel as if my mother was by my side. Julie Smith knows what she is doing and she is very professional! She will forever be in my heart and my husband's. After having the baby, she came to say hello to us and check on us during our stay even though we weren't her patient. I'm so thankful I was blessed to have her as a nurse. She made my C-section experience enjoyable and something I will remember forever.
