A Transitional Care Unit patient was about to be discharged when Gretchen learned the patient had no household items due to unfortunate circumstances. Gretchen immediately jumped to action to obtain the items for the patient before she was sent home. Her compassion and consideration are why she is a DAISY nurse.
"She had an injury that made it difficult for her to run errands," says Gretchen. "As she had no family or friends in the area to help her, I felt the need to play that role for her."
Gretchen sat down with the patient to identify needed household essentials and worked with her nursing team to collect the items. She even created a fleece tie blanket with her daughter to give to the patient.
After 10 years of serving as a staff nurse, Gretchen says the key to outstanding patient care is having a remarkable team behind you.
"I stand behind an extraordinary team of nurses who work day after day and night after night to provide the best possible care," says Gretchen. "The team effort we have here in Bloomer is outstanding, and we work together to make sure the patient has the best possible outcome."
